This country was raised by it's farmers. Now, the age old tradition, passed down from generation to generation, of farming is dying. Gone are the super farms with thousands of acres of farmland in the 70's and 80's. Todays farmers have had to adapt and change as the world changes around them. Many farmers have made the choice to reduce the size of their farms to be smaller and more specialized. Possibly more productive? Possibly because they have no choice? Some are even making the decision to go the route of organic farming. Others, are on the verge of financial and emotional ruin from dealing with the hardships of farming today.

My goal is to visit 6 farmers in 6 States in the heartland (Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, Wisconsin and South Dakota) and discuss with them what it's like to be a farmer in this day and age. Hear how they have, if they have, changed the way they do business. Meet with their families and friends. Will their children continue and be farmers? Hear their stories and get to know, on an intimate personal level who these people are that this country was built upon.

I would like to release it a little differently. Once a week, I would produce a highlight and/or behind the scenes video of where I was for that filming. Kinda like the "making of..." however people get to see how it was made before they saw the final end product. That way, they could also watch my trials and tribulations of putting this whole project together.

Once I am done shooting and editing, I would release the final film/video/documentary in 6 parts or episodes. Maybe more depending on how long the final product ends up being.

I figure that I could do it for just the travel and lodging costs. Gas to Iowa and South Dakota. Maybe a flight to Nebraska or Illinois. Maybe I would drive it?

I think that if I could get something like $2000 to $2500, that should cover the travel expenses.

My goal would be to start filming just before and during harvest time to get the crop farmers at their peak. So, end of September - beginning of October.

Deadline to have the final film finished? I'd say a release of December is possible. Of course the "making of" videos would start coming out the week after I start on the project.
