description: (This is a quick synopsis, and I intend on having a more general explanation along with a demonstration video soon.)
The Echo Chamber Project is a collaborative documentary project that is using open source software to enable users edit together sequences.
I currently have collaborative audio editing up and running with MP3 files, Quicktime and SMIL. SMIL works fine for audio, but does not work as well for doing video for a number of reasons.
So in order to do collaborative video sequencing, then some modifications need to be made to an open source Flash XSPF MediaPlayer. Specifically, clip-begin and clip-end extension support needs to be added.
This project would also enable other software developers and web hosting services to start implementing more video remixing features and functionality.
It would also allow for video sequences to be edited online using the open source Drupal modules that will be able to export edit decision lists back into Final Cut Pro for further tweaking.
This small enough aspect of the Echo Chamber Project to be reasonably completed by some Flash developers and be widely applicable to a number of other open media developers.
This would also help build momentum and awareness for other modular aspects of The Echo Chamber Project.
