Planning Project Pedal - Proposal

2/13/07

Who

Project Pedal creator is Michael Ambs:

HMWV advocate is Jan McLaughlin

What

  • This documentary vlog - tentatively titled 'Project Pedal', will bookend with the Pacific and Atlantic oceans, anchored to a small group's cross-country trip, and focusing on the inspiring people who cross their path.

  • Each week's vlog post will share stories from people met along the way - as well as the main cast and the occasional behind-the-scenes footage. In the end, these vlog entries will be used for a feature length documentary.

  • The end-goal of this project, both in it's vlog and documentary forms, is to share people's reasons and motivations behind their trips. Most importantly, to share what drives a person to leave everything and everyone comfortable temporarily behind, and to understand what they each take away from this overwhelming and painful journey.

  • Logistics / Questions Answered

1) Who are we following?

Project Pedal will actually cast the vlog, much like a regular movie.

2) Who are we interviewing?

The people the "cast" meets along the way.

3) Are we driving, or also riding bicycles?

The crew will follow in a rented / donated van.

4) Logistics.

Why

  • I love and advocate this project because I understand the magic of the road. Michael Ambs' Project Pedal is specifically interested in documenting the synergy of the chance encounter. The more one gives to the road, the more the road gives back. I also love the idea that while the vlog entries will be standalone pieces, that Michael has a vision for a larger documentary work that may arise from this endeavor; something I've long felt videoblogging particularly suited to support. - Jan
