The Pledge Drive Wordpress plug-in allows bloggers to facilitate the support of projects through Paypal contributions. Once installed, the plug-in allows any blog post to define a project where Paypal contributions are solicited for a specific goal, amount and time period. If the goal is reached, payment is made to a project specific Paypal business or premium account.

Site visitors may contribute through an enhanced commenting mechanism that allows for optional Paypal contributions. Contributions can be anonymous or added with a name and link to a site of their choosing. The amount can be hidden (but sometimes inferred).

The plug-in is licensed as GNU General Public License.

The Pledge Drive plug-in was originally developed by Devlon Duthie.

Pledge Drive 2: the Vision

A videoblogger wants to create a regularly produced "show".

She will produce several videos a week about a particluar topic that is important to a community.

Or maybe it is a documentary that she will create over a period of a year.

The point is that she wants to work on this video project fulltime and needs the financial support of the community.

She knows that no one else will make this kind of video...and there are people who want to see it happen.

She can install and customize Showinabox for her project.

Everything included makes her videos good and useful, but it's the Pledge Drive plugin that allows the work to happen.

A person will come to her site and see a sidebar widget with a financial goal for the month.

He will see how much she has already raised, and a list of the donors with links to their sites...most recent donor first.

He can click a "donate" button that takes him to a page.

This page describes the project, let's him watch a "video pitch", and lays out the deliverables if the project. (5 videos a month about ______)

He can then set up an automatic creditcard/paypal payment. he can also just give a onetime payment.

In return, he gets a linkback and knows he is supporting a good project.

Pledge Drive also has embed code so her request for support can live on other sites.

The widget will show the "financial thermometer" and the same "donate" link that takes a person to her "pitch" page.

A supporive community can then spread the word this way.

These tools already exist on sites like Chipin.com....we are simply making it into a WP plugin so there's nothing between the donor and the creator.

The plugin/widget will be totally skinable to match the look of the videoblog.
